Description

This stunning torte features beautifully layered, thinly sliced potatoes that are seasoned to perfection and baked until they reach a glorious golden brown.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs potatoes, thinly sliced
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tsp fresh thyme leaves
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • Fresh thyme sprigs, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C). This crucial first step ensures that your torte bakes evenly and achieves the perfect golden-brown color.
  2. Next, grab a large mixing bowl to combine your sliced potatoes with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, fresh thyme, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Now comes the fun part! Begin pressing half of the seasoned potato mixture into your greased cake pan, layering them neatly and tightly.
  4. Cover the pan with aluminum foil to trap steam inside during the first stage of baking. Bake for about 45 minutes.
  5. After the initial bake, remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 20–25 minutes.
  6. Once your torte is perfectly golden, let it sit for a few minutes to cool slightly.

Notes

Using waxy potatoes such as Yukon Gold will yield better results in texture.
