Description

Dirty Rice is a flavorful and satisfying dish that combines cooked rice with ground beef and a variety of spices for a delicious one-pan meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup long grain white rice
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 stalks celery, diced
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp Cajun seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp thyme
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
  • Fresh parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. Start by cooking the rice in the beef broth. Bring the broth to a boil, add the rice, and then reduce the heat to allow it to simmer. Once the liquid has been absorbed, remove from heat and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion, green bell pepper, and celery. Sauté for 5–6 minutes until softened.
  3. Add the minced garlic and cook for about one minute until fragrant.
  4. Add the ground beef and break it apart. Sauté until thoroughly browned, about 6-8 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  5. Season with Cajun seasoning, paprika, thyme, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and black pepper. Stir thoroughly.
  6. Stir the cooked rice into the skillet mixture and let it cook on medium-low heat for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Serve hot, garnished with chopped green onions and fresh parsley if desired.
